    Description

    Antique CDV of U.S. General Joseph Warren Bell.
    Following info. from his obituary.  Was a lawyer in Chicago, Illinois when the Civil War broke out.  He raised the 13th Illinois Cavalry USA and was made its colonel.  He was in command of Camp Douglas, a POW camp, for a while.  He served with General Curtis in the Missouri and Arkansas campaigns.  He was promoted to brigadier general.  After the war he served as an agent for the United States Treasury in Texas, Louisiana and Washington, DC.  He died in Washington on January 28th, 1879.
    I have never seen another image of this man.  Included in the auction are copies of newspaper articles related to him and a copy of his Oath of Allegiance signed August 4th 1865 in St. Louis, Missouri.  These are not original, but copies from online sources.
