    ORIGINAL CARTE DE VISITE OF PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN AND MAJOR GENERAL PHILIP SHERIDAN - CIRCA 1860's.
    I recently was going through my partner's family daguerreotypes, tin types and paper photos when we discovered these two magnificent carte de visite of President Lincoln and General Sheridan.  The album that the collection of photos was in, probably wasn't opened for decades and so I would say these two pieces are in very good condition with little to no outside exposure. They measure 4 inches long by 2 1/2".  There is very little wear and no creases, or indentations, There is very little to no foxing and only mild toning.  There is nothing written on the back of President Lincoln's card and the name Sheridan is written in pencil on the reverse side of his carte de visite and Maj. Sheridan written lightly in pencil under his photo in the front.  It is barely visible. From what I have gathered, the Lincoln photograph was done at the Matthew Brady Studio.  Possibly photographed by one of his co-worker photographers and or by Brady himself.  I am not 100% sure.  What really excites me about the Sheridan piece is that he is in his Civil War uniform, so I believe these photos are from the early 1860's.  If anyone out there has other information, please let me know.  I would love to learn more about them.
