    Description

    This is a 6th plate ambrotype of a Confederate officer of staff rank, probably either Major, Lieutenant Colonel,or Colonel.  (The insignia on his collar are not visible, making it difficult to discern his rank.)  The image may have had its origin in North Carolina.  The officer is very distinguished in appearance.  There is some damage to the emulsion on the image, particularly in the lower area, (see photos).  Although it is far form perfect, this is a great image, possibly identifiable.
